This documentary follows Choreographer Yvonne Huatin Chow | 周化炜, creator of the #UnaplogeticallyAsian movement. Through intimate behind-the-scenes footage, emotional interviews, and electrifying performances, viewers are taken through the creation of a Hip-Hop dance theater piece also entitled #UnapologeticallyAsian. As the movement gains momentum amidst a surge in anti-Asian violence, the documentary explores how this artistic revolution empowers individuals to reclaim their cultural narratives as an act of grieving, healing, and liberation. Through Yvonne's commitment, #UnapologeticallyAsian captures a pivotal moment in history — where dance catalyzes powerful dialogue and critical transformation.

Multimedia Lecture + Q&A by House of Chow
Run Time: 60 min
Breakdown: 40 min (lecture) + 20 min (Q&A)
Tech Needs: TV or projector + screen, sound system + wireless mic
For: Anyone interested in learning about Hip-Hop, culture, and the arts from an anthropological and social justice lens.

Workshop Description
Hip-Hop, Solidarity, & Intersectionality is a 40 min lecture + 20 min Q&A that offers a historical overview of Hip-Hop Dance from both an anthropological and personal perspective. Through archival video and photo references, Yvonne will share the history of notable pioneers/crews from the West Coast’s BRS dances (Boogaloo Robotting Strutting) and Locking, all the way to East Coast’s infamous art form of Breaking, and its predecessor, Rocking.
From the perspective of being both an AAPI advocate and guest in Hip-Hop culture, they will share specific challenges experienced, along with how they have navigated and overcome them. Drawing from personal examples, Yvonne will provide practical advice for how to unpack one’s own cultural biases, deepen their cultural understanding of self, and build solidarity with other cultures. Attendees should leave informed and inspired, motivated to share forward this knowledge with others in their community.
